Food, Fun, and Fireworks

After a relaxing holiday week (and unintentional hiatus from my little blog due to down interwebs) it's good to be back! I hope everyone had a lovely Fourth weekend ... ours was full of good food (my fave local BBQ and the largest micheladas in town!), quality friend and family time (over patriotic ice cream cake and beer), and of course, some fireworks (I wait all year for this show set to music). Well it's back to the grindstone, so here's to a fantastic week ahead.

Polished and Patriotic

The Fourth of July is one of my fave holidays – it's a perfect summer celebration. The best way to dress for the day is in comfortable pieces that are perfect for a BBQ with friends during the day, and lounging on a lawn at night during the festive fireworks show. As this holiday week continues, I'm sporting some simple summer elements. This denim dress (which I scored for only $13 at Marshall's) gets the patriotic treatment with these red, white, and blue bracelets. These thin bracelets are fashioned from recycled flip flops by a fair trade co. in South Africa, and come in every single color, perfect for stacking as summery accessories. A little nod to nautical with this rope necklace and a bold turquoise ring and it's a full-blown Americana ensemble.

Here's to a warm, relaxing Independence Day. We're chilling with friends during the day and looking forward to a panoramic fireworks show from our rooftop tonight. I also want to try making these tasty, patriotic treats.
